Balika is a graduate of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) programme at University College Dublin, where she developed a strong commitment to placing human values and user needs at the centre of technology design. With a background in Electronics Engineering and HCI, she brings a balanced approach that combines technical expertise with a user-centred perspective.
She currently works as a Lighting Design Engineer, specialising in the design, analysis, and risk assessment of emergency lighting systems across commercial, residential, manufacturing, and data centre projects throughout Ireland, the UK, and Northern Ireland. She ensures that all designs comply with relevant regional standards, delivering safe, efficient, and fully compliant solutions tailored to each project’s requirements.
Her role involves translating complex design requirements into practical, buildable solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and optimising designs to balance performance, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. She is particularly interested in integrating human-centric design principles into safety-critical environments.
